Our Family Favorite Corn Bread


This cornbread is easy to whip up and disappears fast! I pair it with most anything; my Turkey Taco Soup, chicken, potatoes, chili, you name it!

Perfect side for with dinner!  Cornbread warm from the oven and smothered in butter.

  • 1 cup corn meal
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk (substitute lemon juice in milk if needed)


  • 1. Preheat the over the 400 degrees.  Grease an 8×8 pan.
    2. In a medium bowl, combine first 5 ingredients and stir with a whisk.
    3. In a second bowl, melt the butter in the microwave, then add the sugar, honey, and egg.  Stir until combined, it does not need to be creamed.
    4. Add the buttermilk to the wet mixture.  Stir briefly, then pour the wet ingredients to the dry bowl and mix until combined.  Do not over mix.
    5. Pour into greased baking dish, spread with spatula.
    6. Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean, about 20 minutes.
